Is that all you've got?

Ever make an effort to do something for someone, or give them a note to say how much you appreciate them, or give them a gift and get one of those looks that says "that all?" Ever give less than your best in serving, or spend more on yourself than you give to God, or go about it half-hearted in trying to please God. Here is the thing that I was reminded of today. God has given us everything, but he is absolutely thrilled when we give back to Him. He doesn't say that it isn't enough, He doesn't tell us we need to make it better, He takes our small efforts and is thrilled. Even though it is all His to begin with, he loves us for trying to give back to Him. Wonder how different things would look if we spent more time trying to give back to God than saying "that's it?"

Wow. Suddenly i cant keep up. ITs Kenneths own "word explosion".

CS Lewis has a term that a cross over christian band took as band name, 6 pence none the richer. And its the idea that God is like a dad giving us the money that we actually give back to him. He gives the 6 pence to the child and the child gives it back. In that sense he is 6 pence none the richer. And in every way, the money really means nothing to him because it was his to begin with, but in every way it means everything to him because of our choice to give it back.

That is a beautiful image. Why do we get so caught up in trying to define what is mine? Verses what is yours? We even create whole political and economic systems that are all about making sure we keep that distinction intact, verses legally blurring the lines. Im not saying, that God doesn't allow for private ownership, or that Socialism isn't a humongous failure because it doesn't allow for the free choice of "giving". There is debate and discussion all over that. Think the truth in that discussion is probably somewhere in between and not what we always think... biblically speaking. But what I am saying is, how did it come that we have created an entire world completely built around making sure I get mine!!!

In the end, I wont be interested in giving back to God, and will tend towards the, "is that it?" approach when I am totally centered around making sure that I get mine.

need to read the other stuff and will add as i go.
